Fleetwood Synagogue recently hosted its annual open house membership brunch, welcoming prospective families from all over the metropolitan area to the southern Westchester community. Over 30 attendees enjoyed freshly made crepes and acai bowls from the newly kosher local eatery, Swirls and Sweets, as they learned about all that Fleetwood has to offer: a growing young community, affordable housing, proximity to kosher shopping in Riverdale and New Rochelle, convenient access to Midtown via the Metro-North and choice of yeshiva day schools.

Rabbi Daniel Rosenfelt addressed the crowd, lauding each prospective member’s potential to be an influential member of the community, and describing how current congregants have harnessed this strength to transform the shul to a vibrant place for young couples and families. Rabbi Rosenfelt remarked at the ability to have all the benefits of New York City along with a suburban lifestyle in Fleetwood. An outsider himself (originally from Baltimore), the rabbi alluded to the story of Moshe and Yitro of finding oneself and summoning the strength to make a difference.

Fleetwood, located in the southern Westchester city of Mount Vernon, is located just north of the Bronx. It shares all the charms of Westchester suburbs at a fraction of the price, and was recently called “Westchester County’s Best-Kept Secret” by The New York Times.
